Elizabeth Rodriguez De Jesus

Noviembre 5, 1939 – April 5, 2020

Obituario

Sunday – For Abuela

Like sunlight, you were distant only in miles

But we still felt the warmth of your love

And the strength of your ceaseless prayers

Today the rainclouds filter the daylight

And since you went home

It hasn’t stopped raining

That bright sort of rain

That gently waters the earth

And I know that, like the sun

You are out there, not so far

That we cannot feel you

Shining brilliantly as you always have

Just there, above the clouds.

    Obituary

Elizabeth De Jesus was born November 5, 1939 in Santurce, Puerto Rico. Her parents were Tomas De Jesus and Felicita Berrios. She was the youngest of four children, including Carmelo, Lidia, and Daniel. She met Ruben Rodriguez in church, and they were married on Saturday, December 8, 1956 on a snowy evening in Chicago, Illinois.

Ruben and Eliza had five children: Ruben Jr., Dorcas, Ephraim, Josue, and Vasthi. They moved to Puerto Rico in the 1960’s, where they lived until they moved to Orlando, Florida in 1978.

Elizabeth was a devoted housewife and a hard-working mother. When she was not running her home, she served selflessly in multiple ministries at her church. She was passionate about serving others, whether it be family, friends, or strangers. She enjoyed hosting people in her home, and she was always ready to receive them with a smile and a warm plate of food. She enjoyed cooking, telling stories, crafting, making ceramic figures, decorating, and garage-sailing whenever she got a chance.  She loved to bless others with her homemade pastels and lavishly decorated cakes, often undercharging her clients, and giving them away to friends.

As a wife, Elizabeth was supportive and deeply caring. After her husband lost his job after 30 years, she took on a full-time job without hesitation just to make ends meet. After a long day of work, she would come home to make sure her home and family were still well-taken care of, and she did so without complaining.

Those who know Elizabeth know that she was full of life and joy. Her laughter was the loudest in the room, and she always had a story or joke to share. She was a woman of great faith, and she constantly lifted up her family and friends in prayer. Elizabeth stood on her faith in Christ, even when she faced hardship and trouble. Her last days, though they were tough, were full of prayer and praise. She remained selflessly caring even until her final days. Elizabeth Rodriguez went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Palm Sunday, April  5, 2020.

She is survived by her husband, Ruben Rodriguez, her children, Ruben Jr., Ephraim, Josue, and Vashti, her five grandchildren, Katiria, Ernesto, Alexandra, Nestor, and Adriana, and her great-grandson Aayden.
